Inspection (Conservation & Commercial)

Overseen by our dedicated, in-house team of structural engineers, we provide a comprehensive range of inspection services on structures, monuments and buildings across all sectors. We provide a ‘second to none’ world class service.

In today’s built environment our building structures and industrial assets are continually under attack from age related stresses and strains and the ever increasing severity impact of our changing climate and demand on use or process. More than ever, the owners of this infrastructure are under increasing pressure to record accurately and frequently the condition of their assets both for financial, life extension and health and safety matters.

Zenith has been providing detailed surveys and structural assessments to our Clients asset portfolio for two decades. We have undertaken detailed visual, geometric and condition surveys. Our working at height and access expertise allows us to undertake surveys and inspections in often hard to reach areas where in particular, a lack of maintenance combined with severe exposure has generated significant defects in some critical areas.

Rope Access

Zenith has its own rope access division providing safe, reliable and cost-effective rope access solutions to the meet the exacting demands of working at height. Zenith is a member of IRATA.

Our comprehensive range of services include inspection, maintenance, high level cleaning, painting, installation, confined space, offshore.

Conservation Works

We specialise in stonework refurbishment & repairs to buildings and structures. We have considerable experience undertaking complex restoration projects across the United Kingdom, utilising specialist rope access techniques, to preserve the original character and integrity of the stonework.

Our skills are also essential in protecting stone from the effects of adverse weather and natural ageing. Part of the Zenith Structural Access group of companies, we restore historic buildings, churches, bridges, viaducts and commercial properties, and are specialists in the conservation of listed buildings.

  • Stonework repairs
  • Lime harling
  • Lime pointing
  • Stone carving
  • Specialist access

Bridge Works

Masonry, stone and wrought iron bridges gave way to reinforced concrete in the early 20th century. Up until then thousands of river, road and rail crossings across the UK were forged by traditional stone and masonry arch construction techniques.

Never having been designed to withstand the impact of today’s environment, the decay and subsequent weakening of these structures is beginning to cause concerns for the national transport authorities.

The key skills of our team at Zenith Conservation, and our Engineers Consultancy, are transferable to assist with identifying solutions for suitable repair, refurbishment and strengthening techniques of ageing masonry and stone (or composite) bridges.

We are able to work as principle contractor or as a specialist to the transport authorities. In addition we are able to provide a reactive service to repair damaged masonry or stone parapets caused by vehicle impact or similar.

Roofing Services

Utilising a combination of safe and innovative specialist access and scaffolding solutions, Zenith has a wealth of experience in carrying out a comprehensive range of roof maintenance repairs including full replacement. Our world class structural engineers design temporary works access solutions significantly reducing costs and time.

We carry out complex roofing projects throughout many industry sectors including cement plants, petrochemicals and the power industry.

UAV Inspection & Surveying Service

As part of Zenith’s expanding portfolio of services, we are pleased to provide our clients with our PfCO CAA licensed UAV Inspection and Surveying Service carried out by our team of 7 qualified pilots.

We are able to generate 2D and 3D models from captured survey information and existing drawings. We can accurately determine revised capacities and assess the life extensions of existing structures and structural elements.

Decay, loss of section, material properties, geometry and change of use are a number of variables that can affect the performance and life span of any building or structure. This can all be modelled to represent a snapshot in time and assist with determining the structural integrity of existing assets.

A UAV inspection allows for a visual examination of structures providing photographic and video records. Following the survey, a comprehensive report is compiled by our dedicated team of Structural Engineers. UAV inspections allow engineers to identify and assess the general condition of the structure. This combined with Zenith’s hands on survey capability offers clients a full suite of inspection services.

Our UAS platforms can be tailored to suit the prospective operation, whether it be for extended flight duration, thermography, high definition photo or video imagery.

Visual Survey

Using our 30x optical zoom camera we can capture detailed close-up video and still imagery, even when the survey environment does not allow us to fly close to the subject, such as operational flare tips and chimneys.  Ideal for condition surveys and defect identification on buildings and elevated structures.

  • Flare tip condition surveys
  • Cooling tower and chimney condition surveys
  • Roof and gutter inspections
  • Jetty inspections

Our high-resolution cameras are capable of 20Mp images and up to 5.2k definition video for high quality media for project highlights and marketing.

Thermographic Survey

Our thermal camera uses a specialized FLIR Tau 2 thermal sensor and a 4K visual camera along with image processors to render the results on a visual display. We have the capability to interrogate and interpret the survey data to identify temperature differentials and defects.

  • Insulation defects
  • Moisture ingress
  • Building heat loss

Orthomosaic and 3D Point Cloud

We can create high resolution orthomosaic images and 3D models of sites and structures by collecting a large number of individual overlapping photographs and processing them using specialised orthorectification software.

  • Site plans and construction progress
  • Surveying/measurements
  • Asset identification and virtual survey

Topographic Survey and Volumetric Measurements

3D point clouds can be further developed and interrogated using specialist software to produce topographic (contour) maps and surfaces.  Surfaces can be compared to enable volumetric calculations.

  • Site plan
  • Stockpile measurement

ROV Survey

Zenith also own an ROV for underwater inspections providing photo and video images.

  • Hydro scheme inspections
  • Jetty inspections
